    What Is A Curved Monitor?

Well, the bookish definition of a curved monitor can be something like this –

An optical instrument, providing a solid angle for immersive viewing by allowing a wider field of view

In simple terms, curved monitors are the monitors that provide a concave viewing surface are known as curved monitors.

Curved monitors usually have aspect ratios like the following –

    • Wide: 16:9
    • Ultra-Wide: 21:9
    • Super Ultra-Wide: 32.9

The aspect ratio- 16:9 means that the display would be 1.8 times wider than the height of the screen. So, the Ultra Wide and Super Ultra Wide monitors would be 2.3 and 3.5 times wider, respectively, than their heights.

The curvature in a curved monitor is measured in radius, like 1800R, 2300r, 3000R, and 4000R. The R signifies the distance between the viewer and the screen for optimal viewing.

A high curvature rating will provide you a curved monitor with a subtle curve, whereas a low rating provides a more profound one.

What Are the Advantages of a Curved Monitor

Let’s talk about a few advantages of a curved monitor.

A Welcome Relief for Our Eyes

Curved monitors improve our eye accuracy and speed and simultaneously can lower fatigue. Researchers are also saying that our performance in visual searches would be higher than they are on flat screens.

A study by Harvard Medical School also confirmed that curved monitors can relieve our eyes from strain caused by viewing for long. The reason is that curved monitors follow our instinctive tendency for easier processing.

So, it seems that science also favors curved monitors.

    Immersion Has a New Meaning

Curved monitors can provide a truly immersive canvas for work – especially for people of creative arts. You can ask any Motion Graphic Designer or Video Editor – they will confirm the fantastic advantage of a wide field of view.

The pro gamers feel their monitors more intensely than most other computer users. For them, curved monitors provide the most relatable experience through immersion with the virtual surroundings.

    Multitasking Made Easier

The researchers have found that reading text is easier on a curved monitor. On the other hand, a curved monitor provides more real estate in pixels. As a result, multiple apps can run side by side.

Now consider a typical day in an office – every employee has to be a multitasker.

When the above two things work in tandem for an employee, multitasking is made easier.

    Excellence in Field Of View

Curved monitors can provide a near-perfect viewing angle. If you are a pro-gamer and sit in front and at the center, you will have a comprehensive view of your playing sector.

Moreover, our peripheral visions cannot be distracted by curved monitors since the edge is covered with images. This will allow us to observe details on edge.

    No Distortions

From a curved monitor, light is sent directly to your eyes. This provides images free of distortions. The images are more crisp and lively.

But Do You Need A Curved Monitor?

Curved monitors indeed can provide an awe-inspiring experience. But do you really need one? What are the added benefits that your flat screen monitor can’t give you now?

    Let’s find out.

    • A curved monitor is the best option when you are hyper-active in computing scenarios. It can make work or gaming more interactive. So, if you want to establish a more up-close connection with your computer, then by all means – go for a curved monitor.
    • Do you work in a super-competitive environment with a serious workload to handle? Do you need to be focused for long periods of time? Does your job warrant multitasking? Do you need to shuffle between projects regularly? Like within the span of a typical workday?
    • Think carefully about the answers of the questions. If the answers are a resounding ‘No’, you don’t need a curved monitor. Your present one will serve you best.
    • But if most of the answers are ‘Yes,’ then definitely you should opt for a curved monitor.

Let’s find out how a curved monitor can help you in those situations.

    • A curved monitor can ensure uniformed focal distance – meaning your eyes require less effort just to focus on simple tasks like reading texts. This also means less work for the eyes as they don’t need to refocus every few seconds.

And that results in less fatigue for yourself. You can transfer this saved energy elsewhere, where they are needed more. If you use dual-curved monitors, you will have more space to run multiple apps simultaneously. And this will make you better equipped to deal with the workload since you are not wasting time in continuous refocusing.

Let’s consider the monetary side as well. Curved monitors cost a lot more than flat screens. If you are a serious gamer or a graphic designer, the extra cost will be justified by the benefits you will get.

A somewhat subjective issue is how they would look if you mount them on a wall. Since the wall is flat, but the monitor is not, the monitor will have a strange appearance.  So, if you have only walls to mount your curved monitors, it would be better if you stayed with the previous choices.

    Dual Curved Monitor Setup Process

As we have mentioned earlier, there isn’t much difference between a flat or curved monitor when we set them up with the system.

Now, how to setup dual curved monitors? You see, you must want a good view with enhancing the environment vibe at the same.

Let’s see how we can finish setting up of dual-curved monitors in Windows and Mac OS:

    • Irrespective of Windows or Mac, find the HDMI socket on your system.
    • The computer will acknowledge the second unit whenever you put the plug in the socket. You don’t need any software or go through any process to set it up.

But we would suggest you take some steps to get the best out of your dual-curved monitors.

    On Windows

When you press the Windows button and P simultaneously, you will get four display modes:

    1. PC Screen Only: in this mode, the original screen will only remain active
    2. Duplicate: two monitors will be an exact replica of each other
    3. Extend: both the monitors will act as one big display
    4. Second Screen: only the second monitor will be active.

To get the most out of the dual-curved monitors, you should choose the Extend option. This will allow you to use both monitors independently.

Please follow the below steps to add more functions to the second display:

    • Go to Settings
    • Choose System
    • From there, go to display.
    • In this option, you can select brightness, screen resolution, and viewing orientation of both of the screens.
    • You can also set Left and Right Monitor from this option.

    Mac OS

    If you operate an Apple device, follow the below steps;

    • Click the Apple Menu
    • Select System Preferences
    • From there, go to Displays
    • If and when the second monitor is connected, you will find the Arrangement Tab. This tab will let you change the positions of the monitors.
    • The Mirror Displays option will let you do the following:
      • Mirrored Mode – two monitors are duplicates of each other
      • Extended Mode – two monitors perform like one unit

The Mirror Display button will also let you configure the screen resolutions as per your preference.

    Last Words

As you can see, dual curved monitor setup can be done easily. We sincerely hope that with our description, you will be able to complete it with ease.

Curved monitors have many unique features that are beneficial to us in many ways.

But it is also true that curved monitors are suitable for a single user. You may love watching movies together. Or maybe computers don’t comprise a big chunk of your professional life. Your use and need computers, but you can do just fine with a standard-issue device without any special performance metrics.

In that case, you will be better off not opting for it.

So, you should make the decision considering everything. If you can do that, then whatever you choose, it will be worth it.
