Why PC Making Buzzing Noise When Turned On

Honestly, most of the users go through this issue of the computer making loud noise when turned on. But what are the possible reasons?

A list of probable causes that might lead your laptop or desktop to make annoying buzzing noise are as follow-

    Disc Drive

Most of the loud noises your PC makes come from the disc drive issues. When you access your CD-ROM drive, a soft sound is generated.

But if it occurs without accessing any of the disc drives, then it’s troublesome.

    Fan Failure

Although every computer has a cooling fan to cool down the internal hardware and CPU, sometimes it makes a too loud a noise.

It happens when the fan is somehow damaged internally or working overtime.

    Hard Drive

Sometimes, hard drives cause high humming sounds, clicking, or knocking repetitively. In that case, the DVD drive may be at fault for making such noisy notes.

    Speakers

Speakers are supposed to generate sounds, but not when the PC isn’t playing an audio file.

Therefore, if this happens, be sure that something is wrong. Probably the speaker cable is causing it or the speaker is interrupted by any other electric device.

    Power Supply

The power supply can also lead your laptop to make strange sounds. As it makes the fan ventilate the internal hardware, sometimes excessive noise is produced due to the defective power supply when the CPU is overheating.

How to Fix a Computer Making Loud Noise

To solve the issue of computer making buzzing noise, there are some instant quick fixes. Let’s look forward to them.

    Quick Fix for Disc Drive

To be honest, if your PC produces buzzing noise due to disc writer issues, it needs to be replaced.

But for a quick fix, troubleshooting with a third-party tool like CrystalDiskInfo for Windows and DriveDx for macOS is the easiest option.

Run the program preferable for your PC and figure out if all your drives are okay. If not, back up all the data immediately and replace the drive with an SSD.

    Fix For Fan Failure

To fix fan failure which ultimately leads to overheating, you should consider replacing it. Otherwise, you will end up replacing the CPU.

But if the fan suddenly runs louder, first, try using less CPU by not opening multiple programs at a time.

In Windows, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager

In macOS, open the Activity Monitor ( under Applications>Utilities) to check what is taking so much of CPU and stop that program.

Besides, clear up the disk space by removing unnecessary files. Most importantly, keep the laptop on a stand or something elevated. I Hope, this will help reduce the noise by minimizing the fan’s speed.

    Fix For Hard Drive Issue

To check the hard drive’s health, check out if any drive is spinning up and down. If a disc spinning in the DVD drive continues, stop that program at once.

Installing antivirus and uninstalling malware are two other ways to keep the device’s hard drive safe.

    Troubleshooting the Speaker

If a computer makes a buzzing noise when turned on, one of the possibilities is the speaker cable is not plugged properly.

So, fixing the cable carefully would stop the unwanted buzz. Or try troubleshooting the speaker by plugging it into another device.

    Correcting the Power Supply Problem

Before thinking about replacing the power supply assuming that it has gone bad, try to clean the fan in it with compressed air.

As the power supply provides both power and ventilation to your PC, it should be well maintained.

Cleaning the fan will blow out any dust, dirt, and debris and hopefully resolve the issue of excessively loud noise. If not, the power supply needs to be repaired.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I make my computer stop buzzing?

To stop your computer making loud noise when turned on, first check for the fan bearings. If they are okay, check for hard drives. Usually, fixing the fan or troubleshooting the hard drives would stop the buzzing.

Why does my PC make a buzzing noise when I play games?

While playing an intense game that raises the PC’s internal temperature, your computer makes a buzzing sound as the fan is at the highest speed.

Why is my laptop making a weird buzzing noise?

It could be because of the drive disc issue, hard drive default, fan failure, monitor issue, or probably because the capacitor in the motherboard is dying.

    Conclusion

The fact of your PC making buzzing noise could either be quite normal or indicate that it needs to be repaired. Hopefully, after reviewing the possible reasons above, you can determine whether it’s standard noises or not.

If not then we recommend troubleshooting your computer to get rid of the loud whirring sound. We stated the solutions for every sector, whether it be a hard drive issue, fan failure, or power supply problem.

However, fixing the buzzing issue will not only put an end to the distracting loud noises, but it will improve your computer’s productivity as well.

So, we suggest you take the issue seriously and fix it accordingly.
