What to do when the Ram not running at full speed? If you are very sure about this, you can increase its frequency bus speed from BIOS settings and enjoy its fullest read and write performance.

Ram is the temporary storage unit of our computers, and it is vital for operating any functions or applications on your computer. Moreover, the higher its frequency, the faster will be your computer processes. But, the manufacturers cap Ram’s functions to run it safely rather than quickly.

So, this issue brings forth many questions like is it possible to remove this capacity restriction? If yes, then how? So, here we will elaborate those questions with our comprehensive step-by-step guide to fix it and finally run it at the desired speed.

Ram Not Running At Full Speed

Our PC runs with lesser RAM frequency than it is according to the sticker and specifications by default. Do you get it? It means we can tune the Bios or Overclock settings to increase the speed of your Ram. So, your Ram won’t run at full speed unless you change the memory settings in Bios or OC it.

Today, we will describe how to enable the maximum performance of your Ram on separate motherboards and platforms. So, let’s get going.

Ram Not Running At Full Speed Asus

First of all, make sure that your Ram is running at a lower data rate. Here’s how you will check:

    • Open the “Task Manager”navigating-Ctrl+Shift+Esc or right-click on the taskbar and select “Task Manager” from the drop-down menu.
    • Then, Navigate to “Performance.”
    • Next, go to “Memory” and check “Speed’ under the graph.

Otherwise, you can also use CPU-Z to get many necessary details about your Ram.

Now, the standard speed at which your Ram runs can be upgraded easily by activating the extreme memory profile of your Ram through Bios. This process is a more secure way to get the most out of your Ram instead of overclocking it. Firstly, you need the following to authorize XMP override.

    • Intel processor
    • XMP compatible motherboard
    • & XMP compatible Ram.

Now, let’s see how to do it for intel processor platforms on the easy mode of BIOS.

    • At first, turn on your PC and press “del” as soon as the logo appears. Doing so will take you to the “BIOS” menu.
    • On the front page, you will see XMP (stands for extreme memory profiles) under the DRAM Status section and a drop-down arrow beneath it.
    • Then, expand the drop-down where it was disabled previously, enable it.
    • Now, a confirmation notice will appear instantly. Read it and select “Yes” if you meet the requirements. It will load your XMP-I profile by default.
    • Finally, press F10, which will present you with the new settings confirmation notice. Press okay to save and restart your OS with the maximum Ram speed.

Now, check the Ram speed again from the Task Manager, and you will see that it has increased up to its advertised capacity.

You can also unlock full RAM speed similarly in advanced Bios mode. Here’s how you will do it.

    • Go to Bios and Press F7 to enter Advanced mode.
    • Then, go to AI tweaker and open AI Overclock Tuner options, and select “XMP”
    • Now, under the overclock tuner, another options bar will let you select a preset memory profile (“Profile #1” by default, select it)
    • Now press F10 to Save and set the changes and reboot the PC.

Now, if your processor is AMD with an Asus Motherboard, but your Ram isn’t running at full speed, then do the following:

    • Similar to the intel processor, open the Bios > Advanced Mode > Ai Tweaker.
    • Then, in the Ai Overclock Tuner option bar, select DOCP. It will load the DOCP by default.
    • Press F10 and verify the customizations to save and exit.
    • Finally, reboot your pc to check if the Ram speed has increased.

Ram Not Running At Full Speed Ryzen

Tweaking the Ram to deliver the best performance for Ryzen compatible motherboards is also pretty straightforward. You need to figure out where you can enable the XMP profile to boost your memory. So, let’s get started by describing this method for an MSI motherboard.

    • Turn on your PC and enter BIOS by pressing. “del”/ F10/ F12 whatever, your motherboard allows on starting screen.
    • Now, find out DRAM settings directly on the advanced mode of the BIOS (F7) or under OC (Over Clocking) section.
    • The stock setting here at the Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) is disabled. Enable it and the speed, voltage, and timing will change along with it.
    • Now, save and reboot your PC. You will notice the difference both in performance and the values.

Other than this, for AMD processors and MSI motherboard, you can OC your Ram to the sticker capacity through “Memory Try It” options in case enabling the XMP profile did not work for you.

Ram Not Running At Full Speed Laptop

Is your laptop ram not running at full speed and showing lower frequency than the advertised data speed? Then setting the XMP profile through your laptop UEFI will set it right and boost your memory performance. And, how to do that?

Like the guides above, to set the default XMP profile, you need to enter BIOS, then find out DRAM settings, and enable the XMP or DOCP profile. Finally, save and exit to reboot your PC and see the changes for yourself.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I enable my full-speed RAM?

You can enable the full speed of the Ram by activating the XMP or DOCP in your UEFI or BIOS settings. To do it safely and smoothly, follow our step-by-step how-to guide.

How to increase RAM speed in BIOS?

You can increase the ram speed in Bios options by loading the preset extreme memory file under the XMP or DOCP title. To correctly set them, read our instructive article.

Does RAM always run at max speed?

No, the Ram does not always run at its maximum or advertised speed. Because for the safe and stable performance of the Ram, a stock ram profile is set by default. You can change it following our guide.

Why won’t my ram run at full speed?

By default, your Ram starts with a preset safe profile, and you can solve the problem of Ram not running at full speed with XMP profile loading. It is the maximum secure memory profile for your Ram, and you can set it through BIOS.

How can I fix my RAM speed?

To restore your Ram speed to the label speed of the Ram, you can change the stock profile of your Ram and load an extreme memory profile. To do this conveniently, follow our step-by-step instructions under this guide.

    Bottom Line

We buy Rams depending on their advertised clock speed values. Therefore it is rational to complain if we don’t get the maximum speed by default. So, to answer how to modify a ram not running at full speed readily, we have presented you with this guide with multiple solutions for multiple motherboard and processor types.

With the hope that our guide comes in handy and you restore the memory speed to its SPD frequency following our guide, we conclude here. Stay safe and content.
