    How to Fix When Dell Laptop Keyboard Locked

    You need to finish an urgent task on your computer, and the keyboard is not working on the laptop. Various factors may be the reason. Some of the main reasons here could be-

    1. Reboot Your PC

    Restarting your laptop is a quick and straightforward way to resolve your keyboard not working issue. Don’t panic if your keyboard is not working even after restarting your Dell laptop. Other methods suggested below might help.

    2. Reinstall the Dell Keyboards Driver

    Sometimes dell’s laptop key is not working due to driver difficulties. In this scenario, you should attempt to reinstall the keyboard driver.

    While keyboard isn’t working on laptop but your mouse or touchpad is working, then follow the steps below,

    1. First, open Control Panel. If you don’t know how to access it, search it from the windows search menu, then enter.
    2. Then select Device Manager. Ensure that the dell Keyboards section is found and updated.
    3. Then, using the right-click menu, choose Uninstall device from your keyboard driver program.

    Once the uninstall is completed, reboot your Dell Laptop. Windows will then reinstall the keyboard driver on its own accord. Check to see if your keyboard is in proper working order.

    If your dell laptop keyboards continue to malfunction after this process, proceed to the following method.

    3. Install the Latest Dell Keyboards Driver

    If  Windows doesn’t immediately load your Dell laptop keyboard driver, you can update or install it manually.   

    There is a CD provided with every Dell Laptop that contains all the necessary drivers. You can install it using that CD.

    You can also search with your laptop’s model number to manually download drivers for your laptop from Dell’s website.

    Try to recall, have you dropped your laptop? Or split water on the keyboard? Then, the keyboard might have faced some physical damage that you can’t inspect from outside.

    In that case, call an expert or take Dell support if it’s under warranty coverage.

    How To Unlock Keyboard On Dell Laptop Windows 10

    If you want to address the conflict quickly, you can reset your Dell laptop while running Windows 10 first, and then the keyboard should function normally.

    However, if the keyboard remains unusable, do not rush to repair it since the Dell Latitude keyboard is locked, which may cause problems. There are two different methods for unlocking the Windows 10 Dell laptop’s keyboard.

    Method 1: Find out the Dell Keyboard lock Symbol “NumLock key”

    • To begin, go to the Start menu and click the Settings option.
    • Then, Select Ease of Access from the drop-down menu in the Settings box.
    • Once you have the Onscreen Keyboard turned on, go to the Keyboard panel on the left and select the Onscreen Keyboard option.
    • Finally, you can use the on-screen keyboard to tap the NumLock key.

    If the NumLock key does not appear on the on-screen keyboard, select Options from the drop-down menu and select the Turn on numerical keypad option. After that, press the OK button.

    Method 2: Uninstall the Device Driver to Unlock the accidentally locked keyboard of your Dell Laptop

    • From windows search, search for Device Manager.
    • Then expand the Keyboard section and uninstall the drivers.
    • After that, restart your laptop. This step might fix the problem.

    If none of the following solutions work, there may be a problem with the keyboard that has to be examined and repaired by an expert or professional technician.

    How To Unlock Keyboard On Dell Laptop Windows 8

    Well, there are some common facts on different Windows operating systems. And so, the steps shown for Windows 10 work for Windows 8 too.

    Follow some other steps as follows to unlock the Dell keyboard on your Windows 8 PC.

    When starting, you must first find out if a key on the keyboard dell has malfunctioned physically. Otherwise, it is most likely a software problem, which you can resolve by following the procedures outlined below.

    So, what you can try is to disable the Filter Keys.

    It can be possible that you mistakenly activated the Filter Keys option. A type sounds a tone, and the “Filter Keys” symbol should emerge in the system tray if you press and hold on pressing down the right SHIFT key for 8 seconds. At this point, the keyboard will be locked, and the dell laptop keyboard won’t type.

    To turn off Filter Keys, go to the Control Panel and disable Filter Keys.

    Other’s two ways are equivalent as shown for unlocking the Dell keyboard on Windows 10.

    How To Turn Off Scroll Lock

    Don’t you know how to turn off the scroll lock? Don’t bother! To disable Scroll Lock in Windows, locate the on-screen keyboard and click the Minimize button on it. Then, in the Windows search box, type “on-screen,”

    When the Onscreen Keyboard option shows in the results window, select it from the list. On the screen, a virtual keyboard will emerge after a few moments. Then press the “ScrLk” key to confirm. When you are done, you can shut the on-screen keyboard off.

    Another option is to change the Scroll Lock on and off by simultaneously using the “Fn + S” keyboard.

    Dell Laptop Keyboard Not Working Cannot Enter Password

    If you have faced difficulty while typing on your Dell keyboards, you can try this. Tap the “Ease of access center” button in the lower right corner of the screen. Following that, select “On-screen keyboard” and enter the Password. Check to see that the cursor is flashing in the “password” part of the page before continuing.

    After selecting the Ease of Access Center, a different approach is that the filter key can be switched off. Hopefully, it will do work.

    Solution for Dell Laptop Keyboard and Mouse Locked

    If your dell laptop keyboard and mouse are both locked, please run your laptop in Safe Mode to check if the problem still remains or not. Restart your Dell laptop and select Safe Mode from the Advanced Boot Options menu. This process will start your Dell laptop in the Safe Mode.

    Connect a USB keyboard or mouse while in Safe Mode. Now check whether the issue is solved or not. If you can unlock it using the safe mode, then attempt a clean windows setup.
